12 – HMS Tarlair

Work continued on improving the defences of the River Forth.

The antisubmarine nets and booms increased in number and complexity eventually comprising four layers of protection.

In 1915, HMS Tarlair, an experimental anti-submarine station was opened at Hawkcraig near Aberdour.

An observer in a spotter seaplane could direct a radio-controlled motor boat laden with explosives over the position of a target submarine.
