Field of Fire

The 1904 plans of the battery show that each of the guns had a field of fire of 120 degrees.

A set of plans from 1908 – WO78_5175_05-1 – detailed modifications to the parapets to allow the guns to swing through 360 degrees so that they could fire over land as well as over the river.

Range

The Fort Record Book includes this set of range tables from 0 to 12,000 yards.

There is also this front page from a set of tables corrected for the exact height above sea level (194.8 feet) of the Carlingnose guns.

The range to a target was determined by using a Depression Range Finder in the adjacent Observation Station.
