Lanzarote Hotels
Having spent many holidays in Dreams – formerly Hesperia Play Dorada, we felt that the prices had risen, while the quality had declined. In 2024, we looked for another beach-front hotel, and picked Hotel las Costas in Puerto del Carmen.
While we enjoyed our holiday, Puerto del Carmen is not as attractive as Playa Blanca. We missed being able to snorkel, and even our morning swim was difficult on some mornings when the sea was rough on the open beach. There is a “snorkelling beach” in Puerto del Carmen – Playa Chica – but it is 1.6 miles from Las Costas!
So we took the bus to Playa Blanca and had a look at four other alternatives to Dreams. (the online reviews of Dreams are still high lighting the same issues – poor service, because not enough staff, and not a 5-star hotel).
There are three hotels close to Dreams with easy access to the Playa Dorada Beach,
(we discounted the new Barcelo Hotel, 720 rooms – it is still having teething troubles)
There is another hotel at the other end of Playa Blanca, close to the Flamingo Beach, which appears to be similar to Play Dorada
None of the hotels are perfect on every front, so we had to review locations, facilities, reviews and prices before coming to a decision.
