Restaurant

Linen tablecloths and napkins (in evening); no queueing to get in; attentive staff took drinks orders immediately (this allowed them to check for B&B or Half board status); plenty of empty tables, which were cleared and reset promptly. Food was good – soup and salad bar; hot buffet items plus good to order on grill, good choice of desserts, fruit and cheeses.

Bar

Bar – good entertainment and drinks!

Beach

Easy access to a very long beach. But very open, so the water got pretty rough with even a slight breeze.
Made a morning swim slightly tricky on some days!
Very few fish, sandy bottom, not good for snorkelling.

Playa Chica – 1.6 miles away

Playa Chica is at the other end of Puerto del Carmen. Good snorkelling, but crowded. Too far to travel.
Used by scuba divers.

Puerto del Carmen

The town is not as attractive as Playa Blanca.  A long town with very little seaside prom; most of the main street has shops, bars etc on both sides, one way traffic and a cycle lane.

Summary

Positives

The hotel was excellent, and at a reasonable price

Easy access to beach

Negatives

Puerto del Carmen not as attractive as Playa Blanca

Beach was very open, so water got (too) rough with even a light breeze

No snorkelling

Conclusion

We enjoyed the holiday, but missed snorkelling.  Right hotel, wrong location.
