Military Sites 6 – Port Laing Submarine Mining Station
The concrete plinth which forms the foundations for these houses was the site of the main buildings of the Port Laing Submarine Mining Station.
The buildings were linked by a narrow-gauge railway to the “Guvy Pier”. The station was part of an integrated set of defences that included the local batteries at Carlingnose and the Coast Guard Station and the batteries on Inchgarvie and at Dalmeny and the Defense lights (searchlights) at the Coastguard battery, Inchgarvie and Dalmeny.
Gun batteries in North Queensferry and on Inchgarvie were manned and maintained by the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers, stationed at Carlingnose Barracks.
