Website updates

Posted on July 24th, 2021

During lockdown, as I wandered along many paths in and around the village, I pondered the military sites, some still evident, others long gone, around the peninsula.

My first though was to create a leaflet to the sites, but as I began research, I realized that there was enough material for a book!

Over the next weeks, I will add several new articles to the website, all with the general theme of military activity in and around the village.

To whet your appetite, here is the first – The Creation of Rosyth Dockyard

I have also added some new material to the story of Ferrybarns Kite Balloon Station

And “Interior of Barracks 17 AA Coy., North Queensferry” – a detective story

Further afield, here are some articles relating to Military activity around the Forth

Ancient Defences of the Forth – from pre-Roman times to 19th Century

Early 20th Century Defences of the Forth

with subsections covering
Military Aviation around the Forth
Early 20th Century Naval Defences of the Forth
and Early 20th Century Anti-Invasion Defences of the Forth

and a separate article dealing with War time defences in Collesie and Fife

All of these articles touch North Queensferry.
